The Nicaraguan Román ‘Chocolatito’ González, flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), said today that he is aiming for a purse of one million dollars in a possible fight with the Mexican Juan Francisco ‘Gallo’ Estrada.
“The truth is that both he and I deserve a good bag, there is talk of a million (dollars), everyone talks about that figure,” González said at a press conference at the WBC offices in Mexico City.
Estrada, champion in the same division as González by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO), sounds like the strongest candidate to be the next rival of the Nicaraguan, who goes undefeated in his career.
“If that fight happens, it will be a good fight, but they depend on the promoters and we hope they pay us what we deserve,” added the fighter.
González and Estrada met on November 17, 2012 in Los Angeles with the victory for the former by unanimous decision with cards of 118-110 and a pair of 116-112.
He recalled that a new fight between the two has not materialized for economic reasons, but he anticipated that if it comes true it will be a great fight, because both have matured and will arrive as world champions.
“I am willing to fight with anyone, but they pay well,” said González, who said that one of his plans is to remain at flyweight.
The fighter considered it important to be classified as the best boxer in the world pound for pound. “I have been happy because God has taken me as number one and the most important thing is that we are in very good health and we retained the championship,” he said.
Just last Saturday, González defeated Puerto Rican McWilliams Arroyo by unanimous decision in Los Angeles, California, a victory that helped him extend his unbeaten 45-0. EFE
