The pilot Enric Saurí dies in an accident in the race

The Spanish rider Enric Saurí, from the Motos Gaspart team, died today after an accident at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya while participating in the 24-hour endurance race in Catalonia, in Montmeló.

This has been certified by the organization, which in a statement has explained that Saurí has left the track in the first curve of the circuit and has collided with the protections.

The impact was violent and caused the pilot “multiple critical injuries”.

“His situation of instability has forced him to carry out an advanced medical transfer by land to the General Hospital of Granollers”, explains the statement.

«The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya deeply regrets the loss of Enric Saurí and conveys its deepest condolences to his family, friends and team. In tribute to the pilot, there will be a podium ceremony without cava and a minute of silence, ”said the organization.

The 33-year-old experienced rider crashed 35 minutes into the race, when he lost control of the bike at the end of the straight. He left the line and hit the protections, despite having tried to dodge them diagonally. Precisely at that point, minutes before, another accident was registered in which three pilots were involved, although without consequence.

The Gaspar Motos team, located in garage 21 of the Barcelona Circuit, has withdrawn from the competition, which was its fifth participation in the 24 hours of resistance in Catalonia.

The 33-year-old Catalan rider was running his fifth endurance event at the Circuit de Barcelona, and after last year’s good performance, in which his team came second on occasions, he hoped to be able to make a podium in the general.

This was expressed by Saurí on July 5 in the Ràdio Granollers sports program, where he was interviewed and reviewed his expectations for the race.

Enric Saurí was married and the father of a small child, and his passion for motorcycles was deeply rooted, since he even set up a motorcycle workshop, Motos Gaspart, the name of the team with which he raced.

«This is going to be the fifth time we have participated in the race. We are four friends who have been riding motorcycles for years. Before signing up, Motos Gaspart was assisting another team. Then we buy a motorcycle and prepare it, to rent it. We spent a year without activity in the resistance and then we signed up. We had been doing it well for four years and last year it was a shame because we fell into a breakdown when we were second in the general classification ”, he recalled in the radio interview. EFE
