The United States defeats Venezuela and obtains a ticket to baseball at the Tokyo 2021 Games

The United States baseball team defeated Venezuela 4-2 and won a direct ticket to the Tokyo Olympics, while the South American team and the Dominican Republic will play a playoff in two weeks.

Playing at home in the state of Florida, the United States finished in first place in the Americas Pre-Olympic Games with a full four victories, two in the initial round and two more in the final phase.

The Americans join four teams already qualified for Tokyo: Japan, Mexico, Israel and South Korea.

The Dominican Republic and Venezuela, who were second and third in the Florida Pre-Olympic Games, will compete for the last ticket to the Games in the playoff to be played between June 22 and 26 in Puebla (Mexico), in which they will also play Australia, Holland and Taiwan.

Canada, which finished fourth in Florida, had been mathematically eliminated on Friday.

The United States reached the last day of Saturday depending on itself and fulfilled the forecasts by beating Venezuela 4-2 in Port St. Lucie (Florida) with home runs by Eric Filia and Todd Frazier.

The Dominican Republic, who dreamed of an American defeat that would qualify them directly to Tokyo, had done their homework by beating Canada 6-5 shortly before.

Up-and-coming Julio Rodriguez (Seattle Mariners), 20, hit to push in the winning run of the thrilling game against the Canadians.
