The WTA suspends its tournaments until May 2

The WTA, the entity that organizes the professional women’s tennis circuit, announced this Monday that the Stuttgart, Istanbul and Prague tournaments have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, which translates into a suspension of the competition until 2 may.

“Due to the spread of the coronavirus throughout the world, the WTA tournaments in Stuttgart, Istanbul and Prague will not take place on the scheduled dates,” explained the WTA on its Twitter account.

“The WTA circuit is now suspended until May 2,” he said.

The Stuttgart tournament was scheduled for April 20-26, the same as Istanbul, while Prague was to host the best players on the circuit from April 27 to May 2.

Unlike the ATP, which deals with the men’s circuit, the WTA had not yet announced a freeze on its circuit due to the coronavirus.

On March 12, three days after the cancellation of the Indian Wells (United States) event, the ATP announced a suspension of its tournaments for six weeks, until April 26. AFP
