Austrian Dominic Thiem, world tennis number three, suffered the first defeat on his return to the courts after the three-month break caused by the coronavirus pandemic, when he fell in his seventh meeting of the «Generali Austrian Pro Series» against his compatriot Sebastian Ofner in three sets.
Despite the defeat by 7-6 (4), 6-7 (2) and 6-4, Thiem is already classified for the final phase of this local tournament, which distributes prizes of 151,000 euros.
Ofner, current world number 163 and trained by Wolfgang Thiem, father of Dominic Thiem, managed to defeat ATP number three in a match played on clay in Südstadt, south of Vienna, which lasted two hours and 45 minutes.
Thiem is scheduled to participate this weekend in Belgrade in a regional charity tournament organized by the number one Serbian Novak Djokovic. EFE (HN)
