Daniel Maldini, grandson of Cesare Maldini and son of Paolo Maldini, two AC Milan legends, started for the first time at 19 in Serie A, and scored his first goal with the Rossoneri, at the Spezia field, in the sixth working day.
Shortly after the second half began, Milan’s number 27 appeared to open the scoring from head to center by French right-back Pierre Kalulu (47). A goal celebrated with emotion by Paolo Maldini, currently AC Milan’s sporting director, smiling in the stands.
The Lombard team ended up taking the three points (2-1).
This goal from the last descendant of the dynasty comes 13 years after the last one scored by Paolo Maldini in Serie A, in March 2008.
Daniel Maldini, who will turn 20 on October 11, took up the starting position in midfield, behind Frenchman Olivier Giroud, back after missing several games due to the coronavirus and back pain.
Daniel Maldini, who played a few minutes in the Champions League in Liverpool (3-2 loss) on September 15, has already played nine games in Serie A, but never as a starter.
His only two starts so far as a starter for the first team came last season in the Europa League.
Paolo Maldini, 53, now sporting director at AC Milan, played more than 900 games, across all competitions, for the Lombard club, where he played his entire career, winning five Champions Leagues and seven Serie A titles.
His father, Cesare Maldini, who died in 2016, also played a good part of his career at Milan, from 1954 to 1966, being four times Italian champion with the Rossoneri and also winning the club’s first Champions League in 1963. AFP (HN)
