Three Antetokounmpo brothers will lead Greece in the basketball World Cup

Three of the five Antetokounmpo brothers, including Milwaukee Bucks superstar and NBA MVP last season Giannis, were included in the Greek team that will play the World Basketball Championship in China from August 31 to September 15.

In addition to Giannis, 24, Greece will feature Thanasis, 26, who plays for Panathinaikos in Athens, and Kostas, 21, a member of the Dallas Mavericks.

“We have decided to call Kostas Antetokounmpo. We expect a lot from his evolution and we think that it can only be an advantage that a young player like him gradually enters the team, “explained Greece coach Thanasis Skourtopoulos.

The oldest of the Antetokounmbo brothers, Francis, is a professional footballer. The little boy, Alexis, 17, plays at a high school in Milwaukee and, according to Giannis, is the best of the series.

The Antetokounmpo brothers are the children of Nigerian immigrants.

Last week Giannis became the second European player after German Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas-2007) to receive the prestigious MVP trophy.

In the NBA since 2013, Antetokounmpo finished the regular season with an average of 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game, the best statistics of his career.

In the first round of the World Cup in China, Greece will compete with Brazil, New Zealand and Montenegro, in group F of the competition. AFP
