The ‘Xoloitzcuintles’ of Tijuana beat the ‘Zorros’ of the Atlas 2-0 in a surprise way this Thursday at the Jalisco stadium, in the match that started the sixteenth day of the Apertura-2021 Mexican soccer tournament.
At minute 34, the Argentine Lucas Rodríguez led a counterattack for Tijuana, reached the Atlas area and sent a low pass that the Colombian Mauro Manotas converted 1-0 with a forehand shot on the fly.
At 77, the ‘Xololitzcuintles’ wove a play until they reached the ‘Zorros’ area where the Ecuadorian Eryc Castillo received a pass from his compatriot Fidel Martínez and made it 2-0 with a low and crossed shot.
With this result, Atlas was left with 26 points in second place in the standings and could not secure a direct pass to the league; Tijuana reached 12 points, but is still at the bottom of the table.
On Friday in the continuation of the day, the ‘Cañoneros’ of Mazatlán will seek to take another step towards the reclassification phase in their visit to the ‘Rayos’ of Necaxa at the Victoria stadium.
On Sunday, América, leaders of the competition, will face the champion Cruz Azul who is looking to get into the direct qualification zone at the Azteca stadium. (AFP)
