Tottenham, runner-up in Europe in 2019, started in Group G of the new Conference League competition with a 2-2 draw this Thursday at the French Rennes field.
The English team took the lead at 11 with a goal against Loic Bade, but the Breton side later came back with targets from Flavien Tait (23) and Gaetan Laborde (72).
The final tying goal 2-2 at Roazhon Park was signed for Londoners by the Danish Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg, in 76.
Tottenham booked several players thinking about their derby this weekend against Chelsea in the Premier League. Harry Kane started but was traded before game time.
“We had a good team in front of us, but we finished well, playing good football and showing our heart,” said Tottenham’s Portuguese coach, Nuno Espírito Santo.
In the other group G match, Dutch Vitesse took the lead by winning 2-0 against Azerbaijani champions NS Mura.
The Europa Conference League, which begins this season 2021-2022, is a new UEFA club competition, now behind in importance with respect to the Champions League and the Europa League. (AFP)
