Tour de France 2020 will have mountains from the second stage

The 2020 Tour de France, which will start from Nice, will include the mountain from the second day, with the ascent to Col de Turini, announced the organization of the great race.

The first stage, on June 27, 2020, will be held in the north of Nice, with departure and arrival at the Paseo de los Ingleses, in the center of the city, and a route of 170 kilometers. It will be a good opportunity for the sprinters to get the first yellow jersey.

A day later the turn of the climbers is scheduled. As in Paris-Nice, cyclists will have to climb Col de la Colmiane (16.3 km at 6.2%) and Col de Turini (14.9 km at 7.3%), the scene of a recital on Saturday of Colombian climbers in the ‘Carrera del Sol’ – won by Egan Bernal-.

But the top of Turini, at 1,607 meters of altitude, is more than 90 km away. from the finish line of this second stage, which in the final part includes the Col d’Eze (7.8 km at 7%) and the Col de Quatre Chemins, two climbs that have become classics in Paris-Nice.

“Runners are immediately faced with a mountain challenge,” said Tour director Christian Prudhomme, evoking “a festival of open climbing immediately after a day for sprinters.”

The rest of the 2020 Tour stages will be announced in mid-October at the official presentation in Paris.

In 2019 the Tour begins on July 6 with a flat stage starting and finishing in Brussels, also dedicated to sprinters, before a 27-kilometer team time trial in the Belgian capital.
