Trae Young and the Hawks spoil the Knicks’ return to the playoffs

With a basket in the last second, young point guard Trae Young gave the Atlanta Hawks a 107-105 win over the New York Knicks on Sunday at the start of this NBA playoff series.

The Madison Square Garden crowd, with celebrities like Spike Lee in attendance, was thrilled with the Knicks’ return to the playoffs for the first time since 2013, which ended in severe disappointment with the last shot of “Ice Trae.”

Culminating one of the best debuts by a player in the playoffs, Young took the ball with a tie at 105 on the scoreboard with just 9.8 seconds left.

The point guard walked the court, dribbled two defenders and threw one of his signature “bombs” to win the game.

Young, who put his finger to his mouth to ask Knicks fans for silence, had 32 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists in his first playoff game at age 22.

Only LeBron James had made a playoff debut with at least 30 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds.

The Knicks, who thus lose their home court advantage, will try to equalize this Eastern Conference series next Wednesday again in New York. (AFP) (GG)
