Union Berlin and Leverkusen start with a draw in Bundesliga

Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin drew 1-1 in their Bundesliga opener on Saturday, while promoted players Greuther Fürth and Bochum suffered in their start to the campaign.

Pellegrino Matarazzo’s Stuttgart crushed Fürth 5-1 and Bochum fell 1-0 at Wolfsburg, in a game in which they played with 10 men from four minutes.

The Union stadium was at half capacity for Leverkusen’s visit under the new regulations after a campaign played to empty stadiums by the coronavirus pandemic.

Taiwo Awoniyi gave the Union the lead in the seventh minute, but Leverkusen responded with intense pressure that culminated in Moussa Diaby’s tying goal in the 12th.
