Dutchman Mark van Bommel has been dismissed as Wolfsburg coach in the face of poor results, the German club said in a statement.
“In the end there were more aspects that separated us than those that united us,” said Jorg Schmadtke, Wolfsburg general manager, who noted that there was no conviction in the sense of being able to get out of the “difficult situation” in which the team finds itself. “And turn things around as soon as possible.”
“This led us to make the decision to end our employment relationship. We wish Mark the best in his personal and professional life, ”said Schmadtke.
Van Bommel, for his part, acknowledged that he was “surprised and disappointed by the decision.” “I’m sure we would have been able to get back on track. I hope the team gets things right quickly, “he said.
Wolfsburg are currently in ninth place in the Bundesliga, where they have not won since September 11. He has accumulated two draws and four defeats in a row. In the Champions League they are bottom of group G with two points, five from Salzburg, to which they lost in the last match, and one from Sevilla.
Van Bommel, 44, joined the German team last summer to replace Oliver Glaser. He had previously managed PSV Eindhoven. EFE (HN)
