What could be one more Hollywood melodrama becomes, thanks to Jake Gyllenhaal, one of the most outstanding pieces in the filmography of director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day). The duo works together for the first time on “Rematch” (Southpaw), a film about a boxer in search of redemption.
The Oscar nominee for “Secret on the Mountain” prepared for half a year to play the filmmaker’s new object: middleweight champion Billy “The Great” Hope. With an undefeated career, the boxer seems to have his life settled: he possesses money, fame and a solid marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Maureen (Rachel McAdams), with whom he has a ten-year-old daughter, Leila (Oona Laurence).
But while Billy is going through his professional prime, his wife dies in a confusing accident. The two had been together since they lived in a government children’s home, so that fact destroys his emotional stability, buries his career and leads him to lose custody of his daughter. WATCH VIDEO:
