28-year-old Portuguese MMA fighter Joao Carvalho passed away from injuries sustained in his last fight in Dublin this weekend.
Carvalho felt severe discomfort after losing by TKO to Charlie Ward. He was then transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where he underwent emergency brain surgery. After 48 hours in critical condition, his team -Vitor Nobrega- confirmed the sad news on Facebook.
“Nobrega’s team confirms the death of Joao Carvalho, who died on Monday night at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin at 21:35. It is with great consternation and sadness that we write these words, with which we report that the athlete died after 48 hours of entering critical condition, “says the statement.
The letter adds that during the TEF-MMA event at the National Boxing Stadium in Dublin “all safety regulations were met” and explained that Carvalho’s pain began “around 20 minutes after the end of the fight.”
“Despite medical assistance at the event and in the hospital and, despite knowing the risks of this sport, the death of Joao Carvalho was a huge tragedy for his family and the Nobrega team. We offer our sincere condolences », closes the letter. (INFOBAE)
