The Golden State Warriors showed their appreciation to star Kevin Durant on Monday and announced that no player will wear No. 35 on the NBA team again.
In the statement, Warriors co-chairman and CEO Joe Lacob said Durant “conducted himself with class and dignity both on and off the court.”
After winning two NBA championships in three seasons with Golden State, Durant will begin the next chapter of his career in Brooklyn with the Nets, where he will sign a four-year contract worth up to $ 164 million.
He will join free agents Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan, who also plan to sign with the New York quintet.
Durant, who joined the Warriors after eight seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, won two NBA Finals MVPs in 1917 and 1918.
It is common for NBA franchises to remove, as a tribute, the jersey of a player who has marked their history, such as Michael Jordan’s number 23 in the Chicago Bulls.
