WBO would strip Mayweather of world welterweight title

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) could withdraw the welterweight world champion belt from American Floyd Mayweather, after he has failed to meet the payment he was due to make to that organization no later than Friday afternoon.
The fighter’s debt with the WBO of $ 200,000 as payment for sanctioning the fight he had against the Filipino Manny Pacquiao on May 2, had a July 3 deadline, but the American did not cancel it.
The 38-year-old Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision on May 2 in the most profitable fight in boxing history, unifying three world welterweight titles (WBO, WBA and WBC).
The American even said immediately after the fight that he would give up all titles to give other fighters a chance to become world champions.
Mayweather has not given up any of his three welterweight titles or two junior middleweight titles.
The WBO, led by Puerto Rican Francisco Valcárcel, indicated that Timothy Bradley Jr. could be the new welterweight champion of that organization.
Bradley Jr. defeated Jessie Vargas on June 27 by unanimous decision and won the vacant WBO interim welterweight title, qualified that way until Mayweather made the decision to resign or not, so whether the World Organization decides to strip to Mayweather’s title, Bradley would be elevated to world champion.
Mayweather made at least $ 220 million in his most recent fight against Pacquiao and has won 11 world titles in five different divisions between 130 and 154 pounds in 19 years as a professional.
The American has said that on September 12 he will have a fight to complete a millionaire contract of six fights with the Showtime / CBS companies, and according to what he has previously mentioned, he would later retire. EFE
