The Williams team confirmed Finn Valtteri Bottas as the official driver for 2017 on Thursday, while awarding his second car to 18-year-old Canadian Lance Stroll.
For the fifth year in a row, Bottas, who has achieved nine podiums in the previous four years, will continue to drive a Williams in Formula One, while Stroll, winner of European Formula 3 this year, has shown great talent that the team trusts.
“It’s going to be an exciting year with all the rule changes and a great opportunity for the team to be closer to the front,” said Bottas.
For his part, Stroll commented that it was “almost incredible to be able to compete in Formula One in 2017”. “I can never thank Williams enough.”
I think I am ready to learn. I have been working with a Williams FW36 since August and I am becoming more comfortable and confident, ”added Stroll.
