Wolfsburg appeals against expulsion from the Cup

Wolfsburg have appealed against their expulsion from the German Cup after the claim of the modest Preussen Munster for having made more changes than allowed in the 30-second match between the two teams was successful.

The team led by the Dutch Marck van Bommel won 3-1 in extra time. The coach made six changes instead of the five allowed in this competition, even if he has said additional period.

The fourth category Preussen Munster filed a claim and the Competition Committee decided to give the tie as won by disqualifying Wolfsburg.

“We are disappointed and wanted a different result from the Audience,” admitted Wolsburg CEO Tim Schumacher, who was present in Frankfurt along with sports director Marcel Schäfer, Van Bommel and goalkeeping coach Pascal Formann.

“We do not agree with the result and now we will look for legal options,” said the Wolfsburg manager, who has won the German Cup once and was eliminated in the quarterfinals last season by RB Leipzig, who was ultimately a finalist. EFE (HN)
