World Confederation Advocates Keeping Baseball on the Olympic Program

The president of the World Baseball-Softball Confederation (WSBC), the Italian Ricardo Fraccari, affirmed this Tuesday that his purpose is for baseball to remain in the Olympic program after its reintegration in the Tokyo 2020 Games and advocated to bring the young people to practice this discipline.

The WSBC holder defended the baseball-5 modality, which is played with a rubber ball and on any type of terrain, as a strategy to interest young people and achieve their approach to this sport.

He explained that tests were carried out in Africa with excellent results and he was confident that the 2018 Baseball World Cup will captivate many boys and girls in the world.

But the manager pointed out that to achieve this goal it is “vital” to reduce playing time by any means.

Fraccari pointed out that due to the departure of baseball from the Olympics, some 65 million dollars were lost on a world scale, if the budgets of each national federation are counted, in addition to the fact that there was a “setback” in worldwide disclosure and sponsors declined.

He also added that the WSBC intends that baseball also be played in Paris-2024 and Los Angeles-2028.

The leader gave a conference on the Olympic projections of baseball at a symposium on science applied to the ball game at the seventh Convention on Physical Activity and Sports (Afide) that began this Tuesday in Havana, reported sports media on the island. EFE
