Danish Caroline Wozniacki won her first tennis Masters in Singapore today by beating American Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4 in the final.
It is Wozniacki’s greatest achievement in his career. Although she reached number one in the world in 2010, the 27-year-old Danish lost both of her Grand Slam finals. He also stroked the 2010 Masters, but fell in the decisive duel.
Today she won the title through sweats: she was 5-0 in the second set, but Venus Williams reacted and broke the Dane twice to score four games in a row. It was in the second match point, to the rest, when Wozniacki closed the final after one hour and 29 minutes.
Wozniacki had never beaten Venus Williams. The 37-year-old American will thus close the course without a single title, despite reaching the finals of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and Masters.
The tournament brought together the eight best tennis players of the season in Singapore and the doubles title went to the Hungarian Timea Babos and the Czech Andrea Hlavackova.
