Antetokounmpo tries to hit at Yankee Stadium

In basketball, Giannis Antetokounmpo is a member of royalty. In baseball, he is an absolute rookie.

In fact, the 24-year-old Greek acknowledged that he had never touched a baseball before Monday when he visited Yankee Stadium. The Most Valuable Player of the most recent NBA season was in awe.

“It’s really heavy,” the basketball player told The Associated Press. “I thought it would be lighter.”

The Milwaukee Bucks star was encouraged to try some swings in the batting cage, before the New York Yankees host the Tampa Bay Rays. The 6-foot-11-inch (2.10-meter) player got some advice, with not very good results.

He fanned once while the ball was on a rack, and made light contact on his other two attempts.

“I would be a terrible hitter,” he acknowledged.

Antetokounmpo visited the Bronx with his three brothers to promote his new model of sports shoes. He autographed a pair of shoes for a fan, Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia.

After watching the Yankees’ batting practice, Antetokounmpo was more convinced that baseball is not his thing.

“I saw Aaron Judge hitting the ball up to the bleachers. It was amazing. You have to be really strong to achieve that ”, he highlighted. AP
