FORT WORTH, Texas, USA- Australian driver Ryan Briscoe led quite a few laps on Saturday but this time he won the Firestone 550 race of the IndyCar Series, which was held in Texas. Briscoe regained the lead in the final laps after losing it to American Danica Patrick and won the event on the 2.41-kilometre (1.5-mile) track with high-bank curves.
It was the fourth time in the last five races at Texas that the car owned by Roger Penske has made it to victory lane. The victory was the first of the season for Briscoe, who started in preferential start. A year ago, Briscoe dominated at Texas, leading 160 laps and holding a lead of nearly 10 seconds before two warnings equalized the chances for several frontrunners near the end of the race. The restart allowed his teammate, the Brazilian Helio Castroneves, to take the lead and win the race.
Briscoe led Patrick by 1.463 seconds, whose Saturday performance is the best of the season after finishing sixth in the Indianapolis 500. American Marco Andretti was third in Saturday’s race, followed by Australian Scott Dixon, and Scottish 500 winner Dario Franchitti.
