Kevin Durant announced Sunday that he will sign with the Brooklyn Nets and leave the ranks of the Golden State Warriors, where he served for three seasons.
The announcement came on the first day of the free agent period, through the Instagram page that The Boardroom has, an online series focused on the sports business. The series is produced by Durant and his partner Rich Kleiman.
Durant won titles with Golden State in 2017 and 18, but was injured for much of the final postseason, when the team lost the NBA Finals in six games to the Toronto Raptors.
A ruptured right Achilles tendon could sideline Durant for the entire upcoming season. It is in doubt when he will be able to debut in the Brooklyn uniform.
ESPN was the first outlet to report Durant’s decision, noting that he had reached a four-year, $ 164 million agreement. Durant would have received a five-year contract and about $ 221 million to stay with the Warriors. AP
