LeBron James has once again been the Most Valuable Player in a final. But he got something that surely interested him much more, a title with Cleveland.
By unanimous vote, James was chosen as the MVP of the series. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver presented him with the trophy after the Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors 93-89 on Sunday in Game 7 of the series.
“This is what I came back for,” exclaimed James.
The star was overwhelmed by emotions when the bell that ended the meeting rang. He is the Most Valuable Player of an NBA final for the third time, after obtaining the recognition in 2012 and 2013, when he was a member of the Miami Heat.
James became just the third player to achieve a “triple double” in Game 7 of a final. He thus joined Jerry West, who achieved it in 1969, and James Worthy, who had double figures in three statistical items during the decisive duel in 1988.
“He’s the best player on the planet,” said teammate Kyrie Irving.
Now, James is 4-2 in Game 7 of postseason series. In the final, their record is 2-0 in those decisive encounters.
“You look at his basketball talent and the way he can control the game, but the reason he deserves all of that is because he has a big heart,” Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said. “And great things happen to great people.” AP
