Mattias Ekström (Audi S1) takes the victory in Barcelona
The Swedish Mattias Ekström (Audi S1) won this Sunday in the opening round of the World Rallycross, in the WorldRX category, held at the Barcelona-Catalonia circuit.
The Swede beat the German Timo Scheider (Ford Fiesta ST) and the Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud (Ford Focus RS), who completed the podium of a test that gathered more than 25,000 spectators at the Montmeló track.
The mistake made by Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen Polo RX), who started on the first row together with Ekström, made things easier for the Audi driver, while the Norwegian Petter Solberg, despite scoring the ‘joker lap’ in the first back, he finally couldn’t get past fourth place.
Ekström, in addition to taking the victory at BarcelonaRX, also won the skull trophy, the ‘Super Charge’, which is achieved by the rider who signs the fastest start.
In the European RX, the victory went to the also Swedish Anton Marklund, who beat Kiss and O ‘Donovan, and in the Touringcar competition, another Swede, Gehrman, took the victory ahead of Brauten and Royrás. EFE
