The Mexican Gutiérrez will meet his new car in the middle of the race
The Mexican Esteban Gutiérrez, a brand new driver for the Chinese team Techeetah, of Formula E, admitted today that only until April 1, in full test, will he make contact with his vehicle, whose characteristics he has barely known through the simulator.
“I have done many tests in the simulator, I have prepared myself as best I could in the training sessions we had, I have not tested the car yet and this Sunday will be in Mexico for the first time,” he said.
The Mexican’s debut with Techeetah will coincide with the dispute, in Mexico City, of the third stage of the 2016-2017 season of the electric car world championship.
The former Ferrari test driver admitted that he will arrive at a disadvantage compared to the other riders for not having completed a single training session on the track, but recalled that his car was one of the best in the EPrix in Buenos Aires, held on February 18.
“They know the car very well and for me it is totally another concept. Among my expectations are to adapt as quickly as possible and to offer my best effort to achieve the best possible result, it will be a challenge to adapt to the car, “he explained.
Gutiérrez, 25, announced that his contract with Techeetah will allow him to race, after the appointment in Mexico, the remaining eight races of the season.
During a press conference in the Mexican capital, he explained that his teammate, Frenchman Jean Eric Vergne, has told him that Formula E is a category in which vehicles demand more from the driver.
“A good result in the race is not only in relation to the driver who is faster but to the one who has the best strategy and who uses his energy more intelligently,” he added.
He admitted that as the qualifying test and the race take place on the same Saturday, he will have to be patient to seek a good result in a category in which he has no experience and is very different from Formula One, from which he comes. EFE
