The construction of the new roof of the Santiago Bernabéu advances

Real Madrid published this Thursday a video in which it shows the progress of the remodeling works of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium to turn its fiefdom into “a great avant-garde and universal icon” and the last one was the closure of the north and south supports of the cover retractable that will cover the field of play.

The white team began the works in June 2019 and continues to take advantage of the absence of the public in the stadiums due to the coronavirus pandemic to play their home games at the Alfredo di Stéfano and accelerate the works of what will become an unrecognizable Bernabéu when the footballers return to step on their grass for the first time since the classic of last March 1 (2-0).

The confirmation of the latest advance arrives again on the roof, after the demolition of the shopping center and the underground car park. In September, the dismantling of the north and south funds and on the side of Paseo de la Castellana was completed, and this Thursday the club shared a video in which the meticulous work to carry out the closure of the north and south trusses, between Paseo de la Castellana and Calle Pedro Damián.

The trusses are a network of pieces joined together that serve as a support to support roofs, in this case coinciding with the opening and closing movement of the future roof of the Santiago Bernabéu.

The remodeling plan establishes that the new cover will protect all the seats with a fixed structure, while the retractable one will extend over the field of play.

The other visible change for months is the demolition of the annex building, which housed the club’s institutional offices and the Adidas store. In its place, a new building will be built, integrated into the structure of the stadium, which will have “ten functional levels and three underground levels”.

This is how the works progress to build a new Santiago Bernabéu with which the club wants to put its name at the forefront of architecture. EFE. (JL).
