The Fifa The Best awards will be delivered virtually

The Fifa The Best awards ceremony, initially scheduled for September and postponed due to the pandemic, will finally be held virtually on December 17, announced the institution that directs world football.

The successors of Lionel Messi and Megan Rapinoe, crowned last year at the Scala in Milan, will receive a Ballon d’Or-flavoured trophy, as the highest individual award, traditionally given in December by France Football magazine, was annulled this year .

“After the safe return of competitions, thanks to a mixture of work and solidarity in our sport, football has been one of the few sources of comfort and joy for many. It is important that FIFA honor their successes in this extraordinary year.”

In addition to the awards for the best players, in the male and female categories, FIFA will award awards to the best goalkeepers, coaches, the Puskas trophy for the best goal and the fair-play award.

The winners will be decided in a vote involving captains and coaches of the national teams, a group of more than 200 journalists, as well as fans asked online from November 25 to December 9.

The main distinctions this year have been attributed by UEFA, which gave the award to the best player to Bayern Munich’s Pole Robert Lewandowski and the best player to the Danish Pernille Harder, who moved from Wolfsburg to Chelsea. AFP (hn)
